On 7 July, Rear Admiral Paolo Fantoni (Italy) took over as Deputy Commander of Operation ATALANTA for the next six month. His predecessor was Rear Admiral Francisco Javier Vázquez Sanz (Spain), who held the deputy command for four months.
Rear Admiral Paolo Fantoni has an extensive and successful military career. Among others, from his achievements are highlighted: Commanding Officer of Minehunter GAETA, OPV Comandante FOSCARI and Amphibious Ship SAN GIUSTO, that under his Command was the flagship of the 12th rotation in the EU counter-piracy Operation ATALANTA.
